The Beginning of Scouting ...

Cub Master’s Corner -

Our theme for November is "Seeds of Kindness."  As we ponder and take a look at what kindness is, we need to realize that it is something that comes from within.  It is manifested through our outward behavior and interactions with one another; in what we say and do.  When someone describes another person as "kind," they do not mean that they are kind to them self; rather, that they are kind to others.  Kindness is a mainstay in healthy and fruitful relationships.  Reflect for a moment on all of the people with whom you have relationships - friends, family, coworkers, supervisors, etc., anyone with whom you come in contact.  How are your relationships with these people?  If asked, would they say you were a kind person?

Please help me develop this character trait with our boys.

Attention Parents

Please remember that when you are dropping off or picking up your Cub Scout that you should enter the building so that we can see you.  This is for safety reasons.  The boys will not be allowed to leave our sight unless we see and acknowledge you.  Thank you for your cooperation in this very important matter.

Popcorn Sales -

Our Popcorn sales are now over if you have forgotten your order forms please get it to Mrs. Halstead by Saturday at our Scouting for Food event. Your son’s accounts will be updated and given to the Den Leaders within the next couple of weeks. Popcorn pick up will be held at our Thanksgiving Feast. When you arrive the popcorn orders will be set up around the room against the walls.  Please find your order and bring it to your vehicle as soon as possible so we have room to move around during the feast. We will also need help with sorting the orders, if you can help please let Mrs. Halstead now.

Scouting for Food
We will be having our annual Scouting for Food event on Saturday November 1st.  We will meet at the Congregational Church at 9am. Each scout will be given a set of roads to go on to ask for non-perishables. At 11:00am we will meet back up at the Congregational Church to give the food pantry the items we have collected and enjoy some pizza, cocoa and cider. All Scouts will need to wear their uniform even though you may not see it under coats since we will be taking picture for the Phoenix Register. We would like to see EVERYONE there as the holiday season is fast approaching and the Food Pantry could use all the help they can get.  Please sign up at the door if you are able to attend so we can make sure to get enough pizza.

Veterans Day Services -
On November 11th the VFW will be having their annual Veterans Day Services at 11:00am. We expect every Scout to do their best to be there. This is a very special day for the VFW and they do a lot for us as a Pack. We need to show our support for our Veterans who have done their best to keep us all safe and free to do the things we want to do everyday.
Committee Meetings
Our next Pack Committee Meeting will be held on November 4th at 6:30pm at the VFW. We encourage EVERY parent to attend these meetings. This is when we plan our Pack Meetings and events. You do not need to be on the committee to attend we would just like you ideas and input.

Thanksgiving Feast -
At our November Pack Meeting we will have a Thanksgiving Feast. This has been a huge success over the past few years and look forward to breaking bread with you all. Please be on the lookout for Mrs. Halstead with the sign up sheet for food that is needed. Normally there are Parent Teacher Conferences going on at the same time so if need be you can leave your son at the feast and attend your conference. We only ask that if you are doing this you let your Den Leader know ahead of time.

Children’s literature emerged as a distinct and independent genre only a little more than two centuries ago. Prior to the mid-eighteenth century books were rarely created specifically for children, and children's reading was generally confined to literature intended for their education and moral edification rather than for their amusement.
